Chisholm at the Home Show
Chisholm Institute of TafeA team effort! When Chisholm Institute of TAFE was invited to design and construct the entrance feature for this year’s RACV Home Show and Garden Expo, it was immediately obvious that a team approach was needed.

A group of horticulture teachers from the TAFE leapt into action and developed a design concept for the Show.  Ably aided by staff from the Creative Arts Department, and Marketing, the design group took an initial concept of a Balinese-style garden and prepared the plans and sketches for the display.

These plans will be used by students and staff of the Building & Furniture Department, who will construct the shell or frame for the display.  This frame has to be prefabricated so that it can be transported and finished on site.  This construction will contribute to the assessment of students in their Construction courses.

Meanwhile, other staff are working with horticulture students, linking their studies in nursery plants and landscape design, to draw up a plant and materials list and to source suppliers. In the days before the Show, horticulture and conservation students will re-construct the entry display, and finish off with plants and other materials.

It is anticipated that as many as 50 students and 10 staff will be involved in the project at some time, providing invaluable experience for all.
